Serve

1Peter 5:1-5 says: And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you: 2 Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. 3 Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. 4 And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor. 5 In the same way, you younger men must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, serve each other in humility, for “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.”

Peter says here that the elders should care and watch over the youth and that the youth should respect and accept the authority of the elders. It also says that ALL of you should serve EACH OTHER in humility. So The older generations should serve the younger generations and the younger generations should serve the older generations.  Pretty strait forward right?

In one of my classes I’m taking in the internship, we narrowed down what servanthood truly is. Servanthood is selflessly humbling oneself in surrender to the Father in unquestionable loyalty and willing to work to the end. It is serving others, demonstrating the likeness of Jesus, and giving of oneself  while glorifying God with no thought of ones self. This is what we must do to one another. Serving the other generations is all for His Names sake! We serve and honor our elders and the ones younger than us all for glory of God. This will unify the different generations in the body of Christ so we can all be one unified generation working for His Names sake.
